My Favorite Highlighters – Right Now

dsc_0172_fotor1 My Favorite Highlighters - Right Now

Guys, we all know that highlighters were all the rage in 2016. I am by no means a beauty blogger but I definitely enjoy my cosmetics! When I started this blog (after closing down my old one) I talked about getting back into wearing makeup, being a newlywed, and pregnancy. Apparently, I have a makeup obsession when I am pregnant. This time around, the makeup bug has stuck and I haven’t stopped purchasing! This could be a bad thing.

Either way, since I skipped out on a lot of makeup buying once I had my son, I kind of started playing “catch up.” Not on purpose, but it would seem as though I can’t stop buying makeup again. Highlighters included. They are like my favorite things to look at and purchase next to lipsticks and shadows.

There’s just something fun about a good highlight! Makes you glowy without the sweat. I say that because I workout all the time and that’s usually how I get my natural glow! So, I figured I would share a few of my favorites right now. And sadly, for someone who isn’t that great at makeup and NOT a beauty guru or makeup artist….I have quite a few still sitting in my drawer!

  1. Tate Cosmetics – Pro Glow Palette: I figured I would start off with my absolute favorite these days and it’s by Tarte Cosmetics. I recently discovered Tarte and their wonderful products. I basically want anything and everything created by them. Everything smells delicious and the products are such great quality. The price point for their products is absolutely worth it for what you’re getting. But anyway, back to the highlight! You get 4 great highlight shades and 2 contour – 1 cream and 1 powder. I believe this is a great palette for any skin tone because there are different shades in this palette that will work well! I really don’t know much about skin tone and what pairs well with what, so I just use them all. If I like it, then good! That’s how I roll with all of my makeup of the day choices. The formulation feels so good. It’s blendable and definitely pigmented.

  2. Tarte Cosmetics – Rainforest of the Sea Skin Twinkle Lighting Palette Vol. 2: Guys, I love anything by Tarte, I told you! But I also love all of the Rainforest of the Sea line! You’re putting great products on your face that are also doing work. But for this palette, I JUST got it and I totally fell in love. The ONLY reason why this palette isn’t number one on my list is because it was a TAD powdery in pan. When I went to use it, it “poofed” everywhere, and I am so weird. It makes me feel like I am wasting good product when it does that. Anyone else? Just me? Okay. But I used a fan brush with this highlight as opposed to the Pro Glow Palette, I was using a more of a denser brush to get the product onto my face. So, I guess the brushes make a difference.
  3. Makeup Revolution – Vivid Shimmer Brick in Radiant: Radiant is the perfect name for it. This is actually the first real highlight that I purchased and I figured I would give it a shot. For 7 bucks at Ulta, why not? And it turned out to be AMAZING. I seriously loved it and used it multiple times. This is what made me want to look for more highlights out there and discover what they were all about. For a drugstore highlight, it’s perfect. And I WOULD put it at number 1 but…Tarte. Tate is the best…in all makeup. That’s obviously just my opinion.
  4. Urban Decay – Afterglow 8 Hour Highlighter in Fireball: Okay, this was kind of a whim when I purchased this. On my birthday, I went kind of crazy in Ulta and I couldn’t stop! My girl who works at the Clinique area, suggested a highlight and did a swatch on her hand. Then she did one on mine and I was like, “Put it in the bag.” When your husband tells you he won’t “give you crap” for how much you spend on your birthday (that was his gift to you), you don’t hold back. Anyway, it’s beautiful and totally unique in my opinion. I haven’t really seen a highlight quite like this one that I’ve liked so far. But like I said, I am just now dabbling in the highlight world. It’s got an awesome pinky shade to it with purple flecks when the sun hits it. Oh gosh, it’s beautiful. I haven’t gotten to play around with it much but the one thing that sucked for me was that it looked better on my hand than on my face, at first. It took my a little bit to get the color to transfer onto my face and look good with a brush. Maybe next time I try it, I will pat it on with my finger and blend it with a brush!

  5. MAC Cosmetics: Extra Dimension Skinfinish in Double Gleam: This color is GORGEOUS!!! It’s like a beautiful iridescent, gold color that makes your cheeks POP. The site says its more of a beige and I will go with that but I am assuming that because of my skin tone, it looks like more of a gold. It also is a liquid-powder highlighter that gives a luminous, well-defined finish. I would have to agree with that! I love when products are exactly how they say they are.
  6. Essence – Pure Nude in Be My Highlight 01: I actually think this might be the only highlight they have of the Pure Nude line. I am not too sure. I also got this one at Ulta  and it’s under 5 DOLLARS. I got this one because a beauty vlogger had suggested it. I WANT to say it was Tracy and Stef from EleventhGorgeous but I am not too sure. I just know they did a $5 and under makeup video and I may have watched it. I don’t know, either way, it’s a great color and actually does look pretty nice! It IS a little chalky to me. That’s probably the only downside to it for me. But for under 5 bucks, I am not going to argue. And when this mama no longer has a job (I am getting out of the military in a few months) it looks like this will be my go-to highlight when I start running low on makeup!

Well, that’s about it for my favorite highlights right now! I hope you enjoyed it. Let me know in the comments if there are any you think I should try! Especially if they are drugstore brands because like I said, mama is going to be tight on funds in the future! I do have a few others in my vanity but I figured I would wait and maybe use some of those in a future post in a year or something. Who knows. Thanks for taking time to read my post and look at the photos! Until next time!

All About That Base…’Bout That Base…

dsc_0414 All About That Base...'Bout That Base...

Oh I know, it’s a lame title for a post. I heard the song while I was in my car and it’s been stuck in there. lol. Admit it, it happens to the best of us.

Anyway, this post really is all about the Base (face)!

I just wanted to show ya’ll what I do for my face every morning or when I am getting ready for a night out. It’s very easy with these steps.

I don’t like waking up early so I don’t. I am sure that will change once our little bundle of joy gets here. But until then, I will be sleeping in for as long as I can. 🙂 I mostly shower at night so I go to bed with a clean face and wake up with a clean face. But sometimes, I have to go to the gym before work for PT and I only have about 20 minutes to shower and get ready for work. So, here are the steps I take to making my base (see what I did there?), nearly perfect!

Disclaimer: Just about every product is MAC. Just letting you know. 🙂

dsc_0414 All About That Base...'Bout That Base...
Here’s what I look like after washing my face! I know, not very exciting. And pregnancy and the hormones really do change your complexion. Hopefully it clears up a bit after baby is out!! Keep your fingers crossed!

1. Moisturizer
I don’t ALWAYS use moisturizer considering I haven’t really found one that I like the best as of right now. I never knew much about using these on my face but I found that it’s probably really good for you. Especially in these colder months, if you have dry skin, like me, you’ll want a good moisturizer. And let’s be honest, right now I am using some lotion from Aveeno. Don’t worry, I will be finding a good one soon. I did like one that I used for my wedding from MAC. The one I used on my wedding day was Mineralize Charged Water Face and Body Lotion.

2. Primer
Again, I still haven’t found a primer I really liked because, I never knew that you needed to have one! I also used one from MAC though for my wedding and it was pretty good. I need to just research the moisturizer and the primer and figure out which works best for my face. The primer was definitely great for keeping my makeup intact all day and it was great in photos. I used the Prep + Prime Natural Radiance from MAC.

3. Concealer
I started using a concealer, recently, mostly for under my eyes and my red spots. What people don’t normally tell you about getting pregnant, is that you will get acne. Worse than before. I never got like the terrible acne going on but I get zits a lot more often than I used to. Also, my skin has always had a redness to it and it’s hard to even out the tone unless I use concealer. So, I am glad I have discovered it!! I use Matchmaster Concealer from MAC #4.  It’s smooth and covers the areas I have problems with. Red spots, under eyes, and I even use it on my eyelids for a primer for my shadow. Sometimes I will use it as a highlight for my brows as well. A friend of mine taught me that little trick! I’ve had this tube since September and it’s lasted me quite awhile. It’s also one of those things I don’t use every single day. I can just cover up with some foundation when I am at work and call it a day!
dsc_0414 All About That Base...'Bout That Base...

4. Foundation
For my foundation, I use the MAC Pro Longwear Foundation NW22 for my all over coverage. It’s surprisingly, not as heavy as I thought it would be when I bought it a few years ago. I was a little skeptical about buying it since it was $32.00 for a foundation but that little bottle has lasted me a VERY long time. Let’s just say, I have definitely been using it every day for the past…year. Well, there were times I didn’t use it as often because when you are on the ship, you’re not going to do your makeup as much. At least, I didn’t. Makeup isn’t meant for you to just sweat it off. Haha.
dsc_0414 All About That Base...'Bout That Base...

5. Powder
So, for my EVERYDAY, I wear the Select Sheer/Pressed powder NC40. It’s lighter than I had expected but I have gotten tanner and lighter since buying it and it still works pretty well. Again, it’s another one of those things you wouldn’t think is super light, but that’s the beauty of it. Sheer. It’s sheer. When you wear clothing that is sheer, isn’t it lightweight? Imagine the powder to be like that. I love it. It has also lasted me forever. Another reason why I love MAC. All my cosmetics that I have bought from them last a very long time.
dsc_0414 All About That Base...'Bout That Base... dsc_0414 All About That Base...'Bout That Base...

6. Bronzer
I don’t wear this all the time but when I feel like adding some dimension, I will. I learned about bronzer before my wedding because I didn’t think I would ever need it. What half Filipino girl needs bronzer? Apparently, this very white filipino. lol. I just add a little bit of contouring to my cheeks and it makes my cheekbones pop. It’s nice, considering I have a rather round face. I use Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Dark.
dsc_0414 All About That Base...'Bout That Base...

7. Blush
Last but not least, I do wear blush. I find it funny that I even wear it considering I try to cover up most of the redness in my face. But really, I’m just putting the color in the right places. I use Powder Blush by MAC called Gingerly. It’s a little bit more like a brownish-pink as opposed to a super pink or red color. I liked it a lot because I could NEVER find the right color for my face. And this was it. 🙂
dsc_0414 All About That Base...'Bout That Base...

8. Brows
Brows are just as important as the rest of the face. So I include the brows in this. I realize now, how important it is to do your eyebrows. I don’t care what anyone says. Do them. A friend of mine actually had to help me out in learning how to sculpt my brows so they didn’t look so funny. I have tried out a few techniques and I think I am finally getting them down. And I have finally decided on the shape that I want them to be like. It’s pretty natural anyway. I don’t wax, thread, or anything. Just a little plucking here and there. Anyway, sometimes I line the brow with a pencil to start things off. Usually, that’s just for the weekends or when I am going somewhere special. I use MAC Powerpoint Eye Pencil in Stubborn Brown. But when I am just going to work, I tend to skip this step. So, for the brows (after the liner or to start out) I take a piece of toilet paper or paper towel and spray it with this Prep + Prime Fix from MAC which helps the shadow I use to stick. It’s a finishing spray so that makes sense. And I take my angled brush and dab it on the paper before I grab some shadow. I just use one of MAC’s classic Shadows called Brun and I shape my brow and fill it in! Easy peasy. Again, it’s one of those things I am still working on but I am getting better. Makeup is all about testing yourself anyway and figuring out what techniques work best for you.

Alright, so now that the face is done…what’s next?! You can play with some fun shadows and lip colors, get some fake lashes or a really good mascara, some liner…perfect the look! But since this post was ALL ABOUT THAT BASE….FACE….whatever, that’s all I am going to show you for today! And here is the finished product!! Yikes, I need some mascara! haha.

What Mama Wore Today – Holiday Party Edition

img_6040 What Mama Wore Today - Holiday Party Edition

Here we are with another post of “What Mama Wore Today!” But this time, it’s a Holiday Party edition! I posted earlier with a What Mama Wore Today

I decided I would do a little post about getting ready for my husband’s work holiday party. I was trying to think of a way to wear a maternity dress to the party and still look like…well, me. I undersestimated how fast my belly was going to grow so I didn’t buy a dress for the party. I just planned on wearing a dress from my “fat days!” Well, that didn’t work out according to plan.

I ended up hopping onto the computer, or my iPhone, whichever one I needed to use at the time and searched for some dresses this past week. It was too late to order anything online, plus I am not a huge fan of not being able to try things on. It was also too late for me to go to the mall about 45 minutes away, to find myself a dress. So I went for the next best thing.

I went on the Buy, Sell, Trade page on Facebook. Apparently there are a lot of those kinds of pages, everywhere. I’ve only seen them on Military bases. But lucky me, military wives are having babies all the time and are willing to sell their old dresses for cheap. I ended up with this beauty. A black, lace dress from Pea In The Pod that was originaally purchased for $75 and never worn. I went over to this gal’s house to try it on and it fit just right! And I felt like myself in it! I love black dresses and I love lace. Itw worked out pretty well. She told me she was going to sell it for about $20 dollars and I accepted that and when I handed her the 20, she gave me back $5 dollars. I guess she liked me. haha. She’s also a mom with 4 kids and was carrying around a little babe in something called a “ring sling.” I not only got a dress, but she told me a lot about wraps and slings for babies. I will definitely be looking into that!

Black Friday – Beauty Haul

dsc_0047 Black Friday - Beauty Haul

Black Friday beauty haul! Alright, it isn’t so much a “haul” as it is random pieces I bought on Friday.

Being a big ol’ preggo going Black Friday shopping really isn’t the best idea. Ya know, the kind where you stay up all night after your Thanksgiving meal that you just had with your family. The kind where people go crazy and FIGHT people to get presents?! That’s just insane.

So hubby and I just decided to hit up a near by strip mall and I ended up at Ulta. I bought NOTHING that was on the Black Friday sale. Haha. Plus, we got there when it started getting dark. Oh well.

I went around searching for a lip color that I really wanted. And to be honest? I can’t even tell you what color it is because I don’t know! I just know it’s kind of like a deep purple, brown, red color. The ladies at Ulta told me it is probably the colors Copenhagen and Transylvania from NYX. And imagine that, they are sold out, EVERYWHERE. At least Hubs went around the entire store trying to find colors for me! He would grab lip colors and put the testers on my hands. lol.

We ended up finding a nice lip liner from Clinique called Plummy and a fat lip crayon from Laura Geller called Love Me Dew. Two cosmetics companies I have never tried before but the lip color turned out pretty good! J liked it too. 🙂 He likes when I Put reds on my lips.

Here’s a poor quality photo of the color we found.

dsc_0047 Black Friday - Beauty Haul

This was taken from my Instagram. I really enjoy the color!

I also had to get myself a new pencil sharpener because the one I had wouldn’t sharpen my MAC pencils. And MAC was just too darn far! Also picked up a matte pink lipstick. You will probably not see it for quite awhile, but that’s okay. I have to figure out how to make pink lips look good on me! Haha.

Well, that’s all I got this time! And with the baby’s due date getting closer, I am buying less. So until next time, beauties!

Beauty Post – Beauty Haul

dsc_0753 Beauty Post - Beauty Haul

I am so bad. I said I wouldn’t buy a bunch of new cosmetics. I wouldn’t do it until the baby comes! I lied to myself, clearly!

I ended up getting a couple brushes that were on sale. I heard the Techniques tools were pretty good so I decided to try them out. Got the L’oreal mascara that I love because I know it works well on my lashes.

BUT! I got a $10 tube of the They’re Real mascara by Benefit at Ulta…I decided I would give it a shot. And for 10 bucks? Why not? I LOVE IT. I literally have no eye lashes. Okay, I have them. But they are SO thin and SO short, it’s hard to see them. I need volume AND length! I think spending the full $24 will be totally worth it when I go back to get it next time.

Beauty Post – Getting A Little Better

dsc_0407 Beauty Post - Getting A Little Better

Like I said in one of my earlier posts, I am learning how to take better photos and to do my makeup better. Natural light, in my opinion, is ALWAYS best for photos. So, I tried to take some “selfies” on our new camera near a window. It kind of worked. haha. I could have had a better look on my face, but that’s okay. You still love me anyway, right?

Beauty Post – More Shadows!

dsc_0600 Beauty Post - More Shadows!

Sunday night, I got to go out on a little date with J. We ended up just going to Buffalo Wild Wings to watch the Packers Vs. Bears game. I’m from Wisconsin and naturally, I am a Packer fan. Green and yellow, works for me! Haha. Well, I wasn’t going to wear any green and yellow on my face, but I did do some eye makeup!!

Beauty Post – Learning How To Shadow

dsc_0010 Beauty Post - Learning How To Shadow

So, not only am I learning how to cook and what not, I am trying to learn how to do my makeup!! There will be better photos sometime, I promise. That’s another learning process. 😛

On Saturday night, we were going to a birthday party and I decided to wear some makeup. On the weekends, I like to wear makeup since the military has stripped me of my femininity! At least, that’s what it feels like! I haven’t worn too much color lately either. So, I decided to try one that I haven’t worn in SO long! And I swear, this looked better in person.
