My Favorite Highlighters – Right Now

dsc_0172_fotor1 My Favorite Highlighters - Right Now

Guys, we all know that highlighters were all the rage in 2016. I am by no means a beauty blogger but I definitely enjoy my cosmetics! When I started this blog (after closing down my old one) I talked about getting back into wearing makeup, being a newlywed, and pregnancy. Apparently, I have a makeup obsession when I am pregnant. This time around, the makeup bug has stuck and I haven’t stopped purchasing! This could be a bad thing.

Either way, since I skipped out on a lot of makeup buying once I had my son, I kind of started playing “catch up.” Not on purpose, but it would seem as though I can’t stop buying makeup again. Highlighters included. They are like my favorite things to look at and purchase next to lipsticks and shadows.

There’s just something fun about a good highlight! Makes you glowy without the sweat. I say that because I workout all the time and that’s usually how I get my natural glow! So, I figured I would share a few of my favorites right now. And sadly, for someone who isn’t that great at makeup and NOT a beauty guru or makeup artist….I have quite a few still sitting in my drawer!

  1. Tate Cosmetics – Pro Glow Palette: I figured I would start off with my absolute favorite these days and it’s by Tarte Cosmetics. I recently discovered Tarte and their wonderful products. I basically want anything and everything created by them. Everything smells delicious and the products are such great quality. The price point for their products is absolutely worth it for what you’re getting. But anyway, back to the highlight! You get 4 great highlight shades and 2 contour – 1 cream and 1 powder. I believe this is a great palette for any skin tone because there are different shades in this palette that will work well! I really don’t know much about skin tone and what pairs well with what, so I just use them all. If I like it, then good! That’s how I roll with all of my makeup of the day choices. The formulation feels so good. It’s blendable and definitely pigmented.
dsc_0172_fotor1 My Favorite Highlighters - Right Now
  2. Tarte Cosmetics – Rainforest of the Sea Skin Twinkle Lighting Palette Vol. 2: Guys, I love anything by Tarte, I told you! But I also love all of the Rainforest of the Sea line! You’re putting great products on your face that are also doing work. But for this palette, I JUST got it and I totally fell in love. The ONLY reason why this palette isn’t number one on my list is because it was a TAD powdery in pan. When I went to use it, it “poofed” everywhere, and I am so weird. It makes me feel like I am wasting good product when it does that. Anyone else? Just me? Okay. But I used a fan brush with this highlight as opposed to the Pro Glow Palette, I was using a more of a denser brush to get the product onto my face. So, I guess the brushes make a difference.
  3. Makeup Revolution – Vivid Shimmer Brick in Radiant: Radiant is the perfect name for it. This is actually the first real highlight that I purchased and I figured I would give it a shot. For 7 bucks at Ulta, why not? And it turned out to be AMAZING. I seriously loved it and used it multiple times. This is what made me want to look for more highlights out there and discover what they were all about. For a drugstore highlight, it’s perfect. And I WOULD put it at number 1 but…Tarte. Tate is the best…in all makeup. That’s obviously just my opinion.
  4. Urban Decay – Afterglow 8 Hour Highlighter in Fireball: Okay, this was kind of a whim when I purchased this. On my birthday, I went kind of crazy in Ulta and I couldn’t stop! My girl who works at the Clinique area, suggested a highlight and did a swatch on her hand. Then she did one on mine and I was like, “Put it in the bag.” When your husband tells you he won’t “give you crap” for how much you spend on your birthday (that was his gift to you), you don’t hold back. Anyway, it’s beautiful and totally unique in my opinion. I haven’t really seen a highlight quite like this one that I’ve liked so far. But like I said, I am just now dabbling in the highlight world. It’s got an awesome pinky shade to it with purple flecks when the sun hits it. Oh gosh, it’s beautiful. I haven’t gotten to play around with it much but the one thing that sucked for me was that it looked better on my hand than on my face, at first. It took my a little bit to get the color to transfer onto my face and look good with a brush. Maybe next time I try it, I will pat it on with my finger and blend it with a brush!
dsc_0172_fotor1 My Favorite Highlighters - Right Now
  5. MAC Cosmetics: Extra Dimension Skinfinish in Double Gleam: This color is GORGEOUS!!! It’s like a beautiful iridescent, gold color that makes your cheeks POP. The site says its more of a beige and I will go with that but I am assuming that because of my skin tone, it looks like more of a gold. It also is a liquid-powder highlighter that gives a luminous, well-defined finish. I would have to agree with that! I love when products are exactly how they say they are.
  6. Essence – Pure Nude in Be My Highlight 01: I actually think this might be the only highlight they have of the Pure Nude line. I am not too sure. I also got this one at Ulta  and it’s under 5 DOLLARS. I got this one because a beauty vlogger had suggested it. I WANT to say it was Tracy and Stef from EleventhGorgeous but I am not too sure. I just know they did a $5 and under makeup video and I may have watched it. I don’t know, either way, it’s a great color and actually does look pretty nice! It IS a little chalky to me. That’s probably the only downside to it for me. But for under 5 bucks, I am not going to argue. And when this mama no longer has a job (I am getting out of the military in a few months) it looks like this will be my go-to highlight when I start running low on makeup!

Well, that’s about it for my favorite highlights right now! I hope you enjoyed it. Let me know in the comments if there are any you think I should try! Especially if they are drugstore brands because like I said, mama is going to be tight on funds in the future! I do have a few others in my vanity but I figured I would wait and maybe use some of those in a future post in a year or something. Who knows. Thanks for taking time to read my post and look at the photos! Until next time!

A Wedding in November

oct A Wedding in November

For those of you who have been reading my blog for awhile, may have seen a post from a few months ago about my friends’ wedding in Lake Tahoe. Well, it was kind of a secret wedding. How does that work? Well, being in the military, you’re around people ALL THE TIME. And sometimes, you happen to fall in love with someone you work with and you want to spend the rest of your life with them…it happened to J and I. I know it happens!

Anyway, I am not going to dive into the rules and what not because that’s boring. Who cares? Let’s talk about love. haha.

You can read that post from the wedding here.
http://heydarlinglove.com/2014/11/30/a-wedding-in-nevada/

Did you click it? I hope so! Notice something? You didn’t see photos of the bride and groom! Well, like I said, it as a secret wedding. I had to wait until they made everything public before I could post the photos! Also, I have been itching to post the photos of Jamie’s hair and makeup! It’s the first time I had done a bride’s hair and makeup (besides myself) in a few years and I had such  fun time doing it.

Well, now I can share! I’ve actually been able to share these photos for awhile now but as most of you know, I haven’t been in the blogging scene lately since Aston has been born. And I still need to post about him too. lol

Anyway…introducing Brent and Jamie, married!!

oct A Wedding in Novemberoct A Wedding in Novemberoct A Wedding in NovemberIt was such a beautiful wedding and a lot of fun! Even being a big ol’ preggo. haha. And the best part is…I know they are going to have such a beautiful marriage. I miss Jamie like crazy and I can’t wait until I get to see her again! Since getting married, she has left California and gone to Florida (stupid Navy always moving people away lol) and her hubby will be following sometime this year. He still has to finish his contract out here.

Hope you all enjoyed the photos! And I hope you enjoyed the fact that I actually posted again. lol. Have a marvelous Sunday!!!

Beauty Haul- NYX Cosmetics

dsc_0805 Beauty Haul- NYX Cosmetics

Remember not too long ago I wrote a post on the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams in Copenhagen and Transylvania? How I heard a lot about those colors lately? I am pretty sure I said I was going to order them, stat!

I never did. Haha.

It took awhile but I ordered them during the first week of January and I LOVE THEM! Well, “them” being the Soft Matte Lip Cream in general. They still didn’t have Transylvania so I was pretty sad that I couldn’t get it. So instead…I ordered a few other random things.

I got 3 Soft Matte Lip Creams. The colors are Amsterdam, London, and Copenhagen. I tried all of them on immediately as well. They go on SO smooth and are definitely that perfect matte finish. London is officially my new favorite and go-to nude color. Amsterdam is a little bit on the pinky-red side for me. I need more of the blue-based reds I have noticed. And Copenhagen? As beautiful as you see on all the instagram accounts out there. Haha.

dsc_0805 Beauty Haul- NYX Cosmeticsdsc_0805 Beauty Haul- NYX Cosmetics

And since I couldn’t get the Transylvania color, I ended up checking out the Simply Vamp Lip Cream. I picked out She Devil. It looked close enough. Whenever I get Transylvania, I guess we will see how it goes! I am not a huge fan of the lip cream because it’s not that nice matte lip that I like but it still gets the job done. And I feel like I may have gotten a color similar to it in my Laura Geller lip chubby.

dsc_0805 Beauty Haul- NYX Cosmetics

I decided I wasn’t going to stop there and I got a Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk. Why? Well…as per usual, I get a lot of my makeup tips and especially eyebrow tips from Raquel. One of the tricks for her eyebrows is highlighting and I am experimenting with highlighting the brow area. But let me tell you, if you’re a little too dark for it, you’re going to have to blend the CRAP out of this stuff! It works, I like it, but I spend a little extra time blending. lol.

And for the last thing I got, I decided to try some eyeshadow. Here’s the deal. When I was 18, I moved from home to California (before having to return home about 4 months later) and I got a part time job working at a Cosmetic and photography studio. It was different. This woman was from London and sold her OWN makeup and did hair and makeup at the studio, took photos, had an esthetician that worked in back…and sold some…adult things. It was weird. I’ve tried looking it up and I can’t find her anywhere anymore (8 years later). Maybe it’s for a good reason. ANYWAY.

When I worked there, there was a store a few suites down and they sold NYX. I liked it because they had all of these bright colors and I was just getting interested in makeup. Also, I had JUST learned about MAC makeup and I wasn’t about to spend the money on it. So, I felt like NYX was a good comparison at the time. The eyeshadows worked well and I used them for quite awhile. After that, I never heard of NYX again until recently.

dsc_0805 Beauty Haul- NYX Cosmetics

With all that said, I figured the eyeshadow would be JUUUUST FINE! Well, I was right! Shows up well on my skin! I haven’t tried it on my eyes yet but we will have to see how it blends and how well it stays on. Maybe a primer will do the trick…I should use primer whenever I do my eyes anyway. haha. I ended up getting the LOVE IN RIO EYE SHADOW PALETTE-SIZZLING SAMBA. I like it. Reminds me a little bit of a lion. Why? I don’t know. Haha.

Anyway, that was my NYX beauty haul!! What did you think? Did I make out like a bandit?! Haha. Should I try more things? I might be buying about…10 more of these Soft Matte Lip Creams though! They’re amazing!!!

dsc_0805 Beauty Haul- NYX CosmeticsI just LOVE getting packages in the mail! It’s like Christmas. 🙂

Beauty Haul – Sephora

dsc_0690 Beauty Haul - Sephora

Well, I hope everyone had a WONDEFUL holiday season!

But I also hope that while you were spending all of your money on your loved ones, you were stashing some aside for you to take advantage of some sales going on after the holidays were over!!

I did. Not even on purpose. But thank goodness for my friend, Raquel. She always tells me where the good deals are. 🙂 This time I headed over to Sephora and they had 20% off all sale items. SALE ITEMS. I don’t often shop online but nothing ever has a discount on sale items. Unless I am just never paying attention. lol. Anyway, I got a BUNCH of stuff from Sephora and when it got to the house I was SOOOOO excited!!!

I got a couple of new bags. I haven’t bought any makeup bags in a really long time. So, I figured since these little guys were fairly cheap, I would just add them onto my order. 🙂 I got the SEPHORA COLLECTION The Escapader / The Escapader Black for $11.00 and the SEPHORA COLLECTION Signature Clear Cosmetic Bags / Signature Clear Cosmetic Bags Medium Cosmetic Case for $5.00. Seemed like a great deal to me!

dsc_0690 Beauty Haul - Sephora dsc_0690 Beauty Haul - Sephora

Raquel and I talked about liners. I am not usually one for the waterproof kind of ANYTHING but I figured I would give it a shot as well. Maybe I will find these useful when I am going to a wedding…or I am watching a romantic love story. Who knows. haha. But I definitely am trying to broaden my eyeliner collection (or my whole makeup collection) and at these prices, I couldn’t say no! I got the SEPHORA COLLECTION Long-Lasting 12HR Wear Eye Liner in Black for $5.00, SEPHORA COLLECTION Rio Night Waterproof Gel Eyeliner also for $5.00, and the SEPHORA COLLECTION Waterproof Smoky Cream Liner, again, for $5.00. Now…I just need to get an eyeliner brush for these! Shame on me, I thought they came with brushes. haha.
dsc_0690 Beauty Haul - Sephora dsc_0690 Beauty Haul - Sephora dsc_0690 Beauty Haul - Sephora
I even bought a mascara. I was pretty psyched about it…until I realized that I forgot to make sure the color was black. OOPS. Now I have a blue colored mascara. Anyone want it? lol. Maybe I should give it a shot. Maybe it’s dark enough to pass! SEPHORA+PANTONE UNIVERSE Light Flicker Mascara in Ombre Blue for $11.00. Maybe I will just save it for a rainy day. Do a giveaway, perhaps? I’d have to learn how to do that first. lol.

dsc_0690 Beauty Haul - Sephora
Raquel informed me that Buxom is pretty pricey but nice. So, when I saw this lovely pack of lipsticks, I decided to try it out! For $15.00 I got Buxom Two of a Kind™ – Nudist & Provocateur / Two of a Kind™. They’re cute little lippies. I can’t wait to try them out sometime.

dsc_0690 Beauty Haul - Sephora
dsc_0690 Beauty Haul - Sephoradsc_0690 Beauty Haul - Sephora

Last but not least, I got some new nail polish! I don’t often buy nail color since I have to use neutral colors but I couldn’t resist. They were each $1.00. You wouldn’t pass it up either!! I got 4 of them! SEPHORA COLLECTION Color Hit Nail Polish in the colors Night, Speed Dating, Berlin Underground, and Cross The Line. I think I am going to try them anyway and see if I can get away with the colors! 🙂

dsc_0690 Beauty Haul - Sephora

Not only did I get all of these awesome products, they sent me 3 samples of my choice. I am not much of a perfume or fragrance person, so I just kind of randomly chose. I received Chloe Chloé Eau de Parfum, CLINIQUE Calyx, and Givenchy Very Irrésistible Givenchy (WELLL…I ended up with something else, I guess they ran out of that one). Have any of you tried these fragrances? I haven’t yet but I probably will on a date night!

dsc_0690 Beauty Haul - Sephora

I got all of this for about 50 bucks! Isn’t that amazing?! I thought so! I told myself I wasn’t going to go over 50, and I did good. 🙂 I can’t wait to try some of this stuff out! Did any of you take advantage of the sale!? I bet you’re kicking yourself if you hadn’t! 😛

I can’t wait until the next sale! I am just LOVING this stuff!!!!!

**all photos in this post were taken by myself.  Yes, I am finally experimenting with my camera. lol

Mini Beauty Haul – Target

img_1723 Mini Beauty Haul - Target

Alright, I keep forgetting to talk about this!! I mean, it’s not that big of a deal but I had a mini beauty haul that I wanted to post the day after Christmas and I kept forgetting!

Anyway, Jonathan and I went shopping for Christmas stuff the day after Christmas. Yes, that’s a great idea and you should try it sometime. Since this was our first Christmas, we had more than we thought we would have for decorations but we didn’t have as much as we wanted. So, we traveled to a bunch of stores in the area to check out what they had.

The last stop was Target and since I was with him on Black Friday and he walked through Ulta with me, I promised him I wouldn’t make him go through that torture again. Guys, are so funny. Apparently, walking through a cosmetics store is torture. lol. Anyway, to get my “fix” I decided to wander to the cosmetic section in Target.

I was pretty happy with what I found. Shelves were stocked up fairly well. Except for NYX (of course) which looked like a tornado ripped through it. I even wandered over to the Sonia Kashuk section and thought about buying a pack of brushes to try them out. I decided against it…I don’t even remember why.

I wandered over to the back wall and saw E.L.F. cosmetics and just took a gander at their brushes. Uhm….totally forgot how cheap those things are!!! Alright, I understand cheap doesn’t always mean that it’s really good. BUT in this situation, I didn’t care. And it ended up working out anyway. Cheap worked well for me! Come on, I am on a budget! But I need to get my beauty fix sometimes! 😛

I ended up with 4 E.L.F brushes and 3 Sally Hansen nail polishes. And I am excited to use them. 🙂

Told you, mini beauty haul but it’s going to totally hold me over until I make it to Ulta again! Or until I find a sale online somewhere else!!

Beauty Post – What’s Your Favorite Eyeliner?

dsc_0570 Beauty Post - What's Your Favorite Eyeliner?

There has been A LOT of talk recently about the Benefit Cosmetics – They’re Real Push-Up Liner.

I had a nice little rendevous over to Ulta not too long ago and tried this eyeliner out. It’s pretty nice. Does the trick. Unfortunately for me, I wasn’t the one handling the little contraption. One of the ladies at Ulta was putting the eyeliner on for me. That gel liner that hugs the lash line seems so PERFECT, doesn’t it?

Well, it is perfect. But I cannot put it on myself. I feel like I waste more of that gel liner than I get on my face. That’s not good. Like, most of the gel comes out or falls off the stick when you’re putting it on. I think you’re wasting more! Standing at $24 for just the liner, I can’t justify spending that much when I can’t even use it correctly. I don’t know…maybe it’s operator error but…I’ll save the money if I can.

I do have a few other liners that are in my arsenal though! And you know what? They tend to do the trick. I mean, I have just recently learned how to do my liner and brows better from my girl over at Pretty Little Mama so it’s not like I am an expert or anything. Raquel? She’s an expert. Check her out, or even just look at her instagram once you’ve hit her page.

As for my liners. For awhile I have been using the Revlon ColorStay Liquid Eye Pen in black. It’s pretty easy. It’s a pen. goes on fairly smooth and stays on pretty well. But it doesn’t seem as dark as I need it and not as precise. Maybe, I am just running out. At Ulta it’s about $9.49.

dsc_0570 Beauty Post - What's Your Favorite Eyeliner? dsc_0570 Beauty Post - What's Your Favorite Eyeliner?

Even before discovering the Revlon eyeliner, I was using a pencil. I was using the Rimmel London SpecialEyes Eyeliner Pencil in black. You can get this at Ulta for $3.99. Pencil doesn’t quite do the trick for the liner on the top lid. I’ve noticed that it just gets smudgey or melty and we don’t like that! But when I am putting liner on my bottom lash line, I don’t like using any type of liquid because, let’s face it…I am not very good with my precision. I get the liquid in my eyeball and it burns! You’ve been there…admit it! Anyway, to prevent such smudging on the lash line, I usually add a little black shadow anyway. I use Blackout in the Urban Decay Naked2 Palette. Sometimes, I will use MAC’s Brun for a softer look.

dsc_0570 Beauty Post - What's Your Favorite Eyeliner? dsc_0570 Beauty Post - What's Your Favorite Eyeliner?

When I went to Ulta to look at the Benefit eyeliner, I came across the L’Oreal Linear Intense Felt Tip Liquid Liner in black ($8.99). I wasn’t exactly sure on how I would feel about the liner because I figured I would have to literally paint on my wings. Well, I do. But I love it! It’s a great liner for me. I get right to where I want it and it’s pretty forgiving as well. It’s not going to go where I don’t want it to go. The only thing is, the way I do my liner with the wings…I can’t quite get it done with this liner. So, I acutally start out with my Revlon pen and then go back to this one to go over it and finish the rest of the liner! This is now my go-to liner. Smooth, dries quickly, doesn’t smudge, and it doesn’t look like it’s paint. I love it.

dsc_0570 Beauty Post - What's Your Favorite Eyeliner? dsc_0570 Beauty Post - What's Your Favorite Eyeliner?

Another favorite of mine is MAC’s Penultimate Eye Liner in black. Can you tell I like black liner? 😉 It’s another pen liner that goes on well. As opposed to the Revlon liner that I use on most days, the accuracy is a little better and the black is a little, blacker. I use this one on the weekends because…I am cheap. Standing at $20 I would rather just buy that every few months than have to buy it more often.

There you have it. My favorite eyeliners!! What are some of your favorites?! Let me know in the comments! 🙂

All About That Base…’Bout That Base…

dsc_0414 All About That Base...'Bout That Base...

Oh I know, it’s a lame title for a post. I heard the song while I was in my car and it’s been stuck in there. lol. Admit it, it happens to the best of us.

Anyway, this post really is all about the Base (face)!

I just wanted to show ya’ll what I do for my face every morning or when I am getting ready for a night out. It’s very easy with these steps.

I don’t like waking up early so I don’t. I am sure that will change once our little bundle of joy gets here. But until then, I will be sleeping in for as long as I can. 🙂 I mostly shower at night so I go to bed with a clean face and wake up with a clean face. But sometimes, I have to go to the gym before work for PT and I only have about 20 minutes to shower and get ready for work. So, here are the steps I take to making my base (see what I did there?), nearly perfect!

Disclaimer: Just about every product is MAC. Just letting you know. 🙂

dsc_0414 All About That Base...'Bout That Base...
Here’s what I look like after washing my face! I know, not very exciting. And pregnancy and the hormones really do change your complexion. Hopefully it clears up a bit after baby is out!! Keep your fingers crossed!

1. Moisturizer
I don’t ALWAYS use moisturizer considering I haven’t really found one that I like the best as of right now. I never knew much about using these on my face but I found that it’s probably really good for you. Especially in these colder months, if you have dry skin, like me, you’ll want a good moisturizer. And let’s be honest, right now I am using some lotion from Aveeno. Don’t worry, I will be finding a good one soon. I did like one that I used for my wedding from MAC. The one I used on my wedding day was Mineralize Charged Water Face and Body Lotion.

2. Primer
Again, I still haven’t found a primer I really liked because, I never knew that you needed to have one! I also used one from MAC though for my wedding and it was pretty good. I need to just research the moisturizer and the primer and figure out which works best for my face. The primer was definitely great for keeping my makeup intact all day and it was great in photos. I used the Prep + Prime Natural Radiance from MAC.

3. Concealer
I started using a concealer, recently, mostly for under my eyes and my red spots. What people don’t normally tell you about getting pregnant, is that you will get acne. Worse than before. I never got like the terrible acne going on but I get zits a lot more often than I used to. Also, my skin has always had a redness to it and it’s hard to even out the tone unless I use concealer. So, I am glad I have discovered it!! I use Matchmaster Concealer from MAC #4.  It’s smooth and covers the areas I have problems with. Red spots, under eyes, and I even use it on my eyelids for a primer for my shadow. Sometimes I will use it as a highlight for my brows as well. A friend of mine taught me that little trick! I’ve had this tube since September and it’s lasted me quite awhile. It’s also one of those things I don’t use every single day. I can just cover up with some foundation when I am at work and call it a day!
dsc_0414 All About That Base...'Bout That Base...

4. Foundation
For my foundation, I use the MAC Pro Longwear Foundation NW22 for my all over coverage. It’s surprisingly, not as heavy as I thought it would be when I bought it a few years ago. I was a little skeptical about buying it since it was $32.00 for a foundation but that little bottle has lasted me a VERY long time. Let’s just say, I have definitely been using it every day for the past…year. Well, there were times I didn’t use it as often because when you are on the ship, you’re not going to do your makeup as much. At least, I didn’t. Makeup isn’t meant for you to just sweat it off. Haha.
dsc_0414 All About That Base...'Bout That Base...

5. Powder
So, for my EVERYDAY, I wear the Select Sheer/Pressed powder NC40. It’s lighter than I had expected but I have gotten tanner and lighter since buying it and it still works pretty well. Again, it’s another one of those things you wouldn’t think is super light, but that’s the beauty of it. Sheer. It’s sheer. When you wear clothing that is sheer, isn’t it lightweight? Imagine the powder to be like that. I love it. It has also lasted me forever. Another reason why I love MAC. All my cosmetics that I have bought from them last a very long time.
dsc_0414 All About That Base...'Bout That Base... dsc_0414 All About That Base...'Bout That Base...

6. Bronzer
I don’t wear this all the time but when I feel like adding some dimension, I will. I learned about bronzer before my wedding because I didn’t think I would ever need it. What half Filipino girl needs bronzer? Apparently, this very white filipino. lol. I just add a little bit of contouring to my cheeks and it makes my cheekbones pop. It’s nice, considering I have a rather round face. I use Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Dark.
dsc_0414 All About That Base...'Bout That Base...

7. Blush
Last but not least, I do wear blush. I find it funny that I even wear it considering I try to cover up most of the redness in my face. But really, I’m just putting the color in the right places. I use Powder Blush by MAC called Gingerly. It’s a little bit more like a brownish-pink as opposed to a super pink or red color. I liked it a lot because I could NEVER find the right color for my face. And this was it. 🙂
dsc_0414 All About That Base...'Bout That Base...

8. Brows
Brows are just as important as the rest of the face. So I include the brows in this. I realize now, how important it is to do your eyebrows. I don’t care what anyone says. Do them. A friend of mine actually had to help me out in learning how to sculpt my brows so they didn’t look so funny. I have tried out a few techniques and I think I am finally getting them down. And I have finally decided on the shape that I want them to be like. It’s pretty natural anyway. I don’t wax, thread, or anything. Just a little plucking here and there. Anyway, sometimes I line the brow with a pencil to start things off. Usually, that’s just for the weekends or when I am going somewhere special. I use MAC Powerpoint Eye Pencil in Stubborn Brown. But when I am just going to work, I tend to skip this step. So, for the brows (after the liner or to start out) I take a piece of toilet paper or paper towel and spray it with this Prep + Prime Fix from MAC which helps the shadow I use to stick. It’s a finishing spray so that makes sense. And I take my angled brush and dab it on the paper before I grab some shadow. I just use one of MAC’s classic Shadows called Brun and I shape my brow and fill it in! Easy peasy. Again, it’s one of those things I am still working on but I am getting better. Makeup is all about testing yourself anyway and figuring out what techniques work best for you.
dsc_0414 All About That Base...'Bout That Base...dsc_0414 All About That Base...'Bout That Base...
dsc_0414 All About That Base...'Bout That Base...

Alright, so now that the face is done…what’s next?! You can play with some fun shadows and lip colors, get some fake lashes or a really good mascara, some liner…perfect the look! NYX Soft Matte Lip Creme

0acb2604cb048dfbb8bf270ff5a65290 NYX Soft Matte Lip Creme

It’s no secret that these lip cremes are a hit these days! You see colors Copenhagen and Transylvania…EVERYWHERE.

Instagram: check Twitter: check Blogs: check

It’s everywhere. Which is totally understandable! Both of these colors are great colors.

Alright, so I am a little behind and these colors have been out for awhile but it’s just insane to me how popular they are! I read some blogs where people were upset that they had ordered their lip colors and they were on back order. Or if you went to a store like Ulta, they were sold out. Nuts.

I went to Ulta a couple weeks ago just explaining the color I am looking for to people. I wanted something deep and full. Something gorgeous. Something….that I hadn’t worn before. And they all directed me to NYX Transylvania and Copenhagen. They said that it was super popular these days and they’re right. Those are the colors I am looking for! Saw them on Instagram and thought…yup. I want it. I wonder if it will even look good on me!

Well, since these wonderful colors are 5.99 and are definitely less expensive compared to my normal 16.00 lipcolor choices (MAC) I decided I am just going to order them both from Ulta. Why not? I want them. I like them. They’re inexpensive. They’re gonna be mine. 😛

Best part is…NYX Cosmetics are buy one, get one 50% off. Uh, sweet deal! I might invest in a few more! Maybe even try the matte lipsticks. I’ve never worn NYX lipcolor before so this will be interesting! Maybe I will do a review on it some time! 🙂

What Mama Wore Today – Holiday Party Edition

img_6040 What Mama Wore Today - Holiday Party Edition

Here we are with another post of “What Mama Wore Today!” But this time, it’s a Holiday Party edition! I posted earlier with a What Mama Wore Today

I decided I would do a little post about getting ready for my husband’s work holiday party. I was trying to think of a way to wear a maternity dress to the party and still look like…well, me. I undersestimated how fast my belly was going to grow so I didn’t buy a dress for the party. I just planned on wearing a dress from my “fat days!” Well, that didn’t work out according to plan.

I ended up hopping onto the computer, or my iPhone, whichever one I needed to use at the time and searched for some dresses this past week. It was too late to order anything online, plus I am not a huge fan of not being able to try things on. It was also too late for me to go to the mall about 45 minutes away, to find myself a dress. So I went for the next best thing.

I went on the Buy, Sell, Trade page on Facebook. Apparently there are a lot of those kinds of pages, everywhere. I’ve only seen them on Military bases. But lucky me, military wives are having babies all the time and are willing to sell their old dresses for cheap. I ended up with this beauty. A black, lace dress from Pea In The Pod that was originaally purchased for $75 and never worn. I went over to this gal’s house to try it on and it fit just right! And I felt like myself in it! I love black dresses and I love lace. Itw worked out pretty well. She told me she was going to sell it for about $20 dollars and I accepted that and when I handed her the 20, she gave me back $5 dollars. I guess she liked me. haha. She’s also a mom with 4 kids and was carrying around a little babe in something called a “ring sling.” I not only got a dress, but she told me a lot about wraps and slings for babies. I will definitely be looking into that!

Black Friday – Beauty Haul

dsc_0047 Black Friday - Beauty Haul

Black Friday beauty haul! Alright, it isn’t so much a “haul” as it is random pieces I bought on Friday.

Being a big ol’ preggo going Black Friday shopping really isn’t the best idea. Ya know, the kind where you stay up all night after your Thanksgiving meal that you just had with your family. The kind where people go crazy and FIGHT people to get presents?! That’s just insane.

So hubby and I just decided to hit up a near by strip mall and I ended up at Ulta. I bought NOTHING that was on the Black Friday sale. Haha. Plus, we got there when it started getting dark. Oh well.

I went around searching for a lip color that I really wanted. And to be honest? I can’t even tell you what color it is because I don’t know! I just know it’s kind of like a deep purple, brown, red color. The ladies at Ulta told me it is probably the colors Copenhagen and Transylvania from NYX. And imagine that, they are sold out, EVERYWHERE. At least Hubs went around the entire store trying to find colors for me! He would grab lip colors and put the testers on my hands. lol.

We ended up finding a nice lip liner from Clinique called Plummy and a fat lip crayon from Laura Geller called Love Me Dew. Two cosmetics companies I have never tried before but the lip color turned out pretty good! J liked it too. 🙂 He likes when I Put reds on my lips.

Here’s a poor quality photo of the color we found.

This was taken from my Instagram. I really enjoy the color!

I also had to get myself a new pencil sharpener because the one I had wouldn’t sharpen my MAC pencils. And MAC was just too darn far! Also picked up a matte pink lipstick. You will probably not see it for quite awhile, but that’s okay. I have to figure out how to make pink lips look good on me! Haha.

Well, that’s all I got this time! And with the baby’s due date getting closer, I am buying less. So until next time, beauties!
